CERS MEMBERS ELECT TRUSTEES

The members and retirees of the County Employees Retirement System elected Jane C. Driskell and George B. Boehnlein, both from Louisville, to four-year terms beginning April 1, 1997.

Jane Driskell is the Policy and Budget Administrator, Jefferson County Fiscal Court. She serves as Budget Director for the County and provides direction in grant management, insurance and risk management.

George Boehnlein currently holds the position of Controller, Finance and Administration Department, Jefferson County Fiscal Court. He is responsible for the financial reports of the County's $190 million annual budget.

A total of 103,055 ballots were delivered to members' homes. The 12,483 ballots that were returned represent participation by 12% of the membership eligible to vote.

In accordance with KRS 61.645(4)(b), it will require at least 1,248 signatures to nominate a candidate by petition for the CERS members in the next election to be held in 2001.

CHECK OR DIRECT DEPOSIT?

When you retire, you must indicate to the retirement office whether you wish to receive your benefit by check or by direct deposit to your bank account (electronic fund transfer).

The regulation now requires recipients to complete a form for Direct Deposit or state in writing that they wish to receive payment by check.

For your convenience, a fill-in-the-blank memo is included in retirement packets.

If you wish to receive your monthly benefit on the fourteenth of the month, you should elect Direct Deposit.

If you request payment by check, the retirement systems will mail checks on the fourteenth. Delivery of checks by a specific day of the month is not required by law and cannot be guaranteed.

Direct Deposit is the only way to guarantee receipt of your benefit on a specific date.

The retirement systems urges you to consider direct deposit. It is safer and more reliable.

KERS BOARD CANDIDATES SOUGHT

Next year, employees, inactive members and retired members of the Kentucky Employees Retirement System will vote for two individuals to serve on the Board of Trustees.

Per KRS 61.645, the Board must place three names on the ballot for each position to be filled.

The Board of Trustees is asking for names of members who would be interested in running for the two KERS trustee positions.

To be eligible a person must be a member or retired member of KERS. The full board meets a minimum of five times per year. In addition, members appointed to certain committees may have monthly committee meetings to attend. Board members do not receive a salary. Members receive a per diem and necessary travel expenses.

If you are interested, please send a resume (be sure to include your Social Security number) to the retirement office by August 8, 1997.

The Board of Trustees will select six names (three for each position) at the August meeting that will appear on the ballot to be mailed in January 1998.
