Internal Audit

Introduction:

Internal Auditing, as defined by the Institute of Internal Auditors, is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization's operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

To this end, the Division of Internal Audit has been established to assist the Audit Committee, Board of Trustees, Executive Director, and management of Kentucky Retirement Systems (KRS) to attest to its governance role and achieve sound managerial control over all aspects of the operations of KRS including accounting, provision of retiree benefits, asset management, information management and control systems, and for such other activities for which they are responsible.

The overall objective of the Division of Internal Audit is to assist all levels of management in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by providing independent analysis, appraisals, advice, and recommendations concerning activities reviewed.

Audit Committee meetings are scheduled on the first working Thursday in February, May, August, and November of each year. However, the meeting dates and times are subject to change. Accordingly, changes will be posted. For 2008, the dates and times have been scheduled as follows:

The meetings are held in the Board Room in Building C (first building on the right) at KRS.
